Description

This role requires you to be resident in the UK.

We’re looking for a Product Designer on a one year fixed term contract, who is passionate about putting the customer at the heart of everything we do. Your role will be to create products and experiences that go beyond simply meeting expectations, aiming to delight users at every step.

As part of collaborative, cross-functional teams, you’ll take on complex challenges, crafting user-centred designs that align with our business goals. You’ll lead design tasks, conduct user research, and develop innovative solutions that resonate with our vision.

We believe in data-guided decision-making, so you’ll bring actionable insights from both qualitative and quantitative data to inform strategic choices. Your creativity and attention to detail will ensure that our products are not just functional but enjoyable to use, with a consistent design language.

Key Responsibilities

As a Product Designer at PPG, you’ll play a key role in shaping exceptional user experiences. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing user-centred solutions: Create intuitive and engaging designs that meet customer needs and support business objectives.
  • Collaborating with agile teams: Work alongside cross-functional teams to integrate tools and methods for data-guided design and decision-making.
  • Driving research and insights: Conduct user research, analyse data, and apply insights to refine designs that deliver measurable value.
  • Understanding data fundamentals: Use your understanding of business and product strategy to guide design decisions that improve product performance.
  • Engaging with stakeholders: Participate in requirements gathering and contribute to solution design and decision-making.
  • Contributing to agile ceremonies: Take an active role in stand-ups, retrospectives, and story kick-offs, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Championing customer advocacy: Always advocate for customer needs, ensuring that their voice is heard throughout the design and delivery process.
  • Supporting iterative delivery: Promote early, iterative delivery of value, using data-guided decisions to drive progress.
  • Driving continuous improvement: Embrace agile and lean practices, challenge the status quo, and explore creative solutions to stay competitive.
  • Maintaining design consistency: Ensure all designs align with PPG’s design language for cohesive and polished experiences.
  • Identifying risks: Work with delivery leads to assess risk and develop strategies to mitigate impacts.
  • Facilitating team growth: Mentor colleagues in data analysis and design interpretation, helping teams become more self-sufficient.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Agile expertise: Experience in modern Agile software delivery, preferably for business applications, with clear examples of your contributions.
  • Strong visual design skills: A solid understanding of design principles, including tone, colour, and UI best practices across multiple platforms.
  • Research proficiency: Experience in user research and developing insights into customer and market needs to inform design decisions.
  • Tool mastery: Proficiency with design tools such as Figma and Mural, allowing you to create wireframes, sitemaps, user journeys, and prototypes at various fidelities.
  • Collaboration and communication skills: Strong presentation, organisational, and time management skills, with the ability to thrive in cross-functional teams.
  • Relevant education or experience: A degree or equivalent experience in Interaction Design, Psychology, HCI, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • SaaS expertise: Experience transitioning software from a premises-based model to SaaS delivery is highly desirable.
  • Sector knowledge: While experience in the Education sector is not required, it would be a bonus.
