What will I be doing?

  • Set and manage departmental objectives, demonstrating a clear understanding of business strategy and adapting effectively to change. Provide strong leadership to all leaders and direct reports, maintaining high standards of performance and accountability.
  • Maintain focus on priorities during periods of challenge or change, ensuring deadlines and targets are achieved. Address performance issues professionally, sensitively and constructively when required.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently using appropriate methods and channels, adapting style to suit different audiences and ensuring understanding.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders, actively seeking feedback and encouraging collaboration to achieve the best outcomes.
  • Foster an environment where new ideas are welcomed, supporting innovation and continuous improvement across teams and functions.
  • Act as an ambassador for MSC’s mission, values and pledge, helping associates understand how their contribution supports business success and strategic objectives.
  • Oversee recruitment activities that attract and retain high quality talent.
  • Support team with payroll activities ensuring timelines and accuracy is met.
  • Administer and actively promote company benefits, maintaining excellent communication with both associates and external providers.
  • Monitor, analyse and report on HR KPIs, providing insights and recommendations to support business decision-making.
  • Provide expert HR advice and guidance to managers across all areas of HR, ensuring compliance with UK employment legislation and company policies while delivering practical, business-focused solutions.
  • Design and deliver engaging management development and HR training programs aligned to organisational needs and business objectives.
  • Support and encourage continuous improvement of recruitment processes, ensuring a professional, responsive and effective service that attracts high-quality talent.
  • Manage all incoming HR communications, ensuring timely responses and maintaining a positive and professional HR brand.
  • Build strong interdepartmental relationships through regular engagement with department leaders and attendance at team meetings alongside the HR Director.
  • Support business improvement initiatives, projects and organisational change programs as required.
  • Undertake additional duties consistent with the scope and responsibilities of the role.

What do I need?

  • CIPD Level 5 qualified or equivalent professional experience.
  • Significant experience within a generalist HR role.
  • Strong employee relations knowledge and practical experience.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of UK employment legislation and HR best practice.
  • Excellent communication, coaching and influencing skills.
  • Ability to build credibility and strong working relationships at all levels.
  • Exceptional organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
