You’ll collaborate with major publishers across EMEA to create a wide range of products, including books, magazines, sticker albums, audio devices, digital publishing, comics and part works.

The Senior Designer role is a Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) for 12 months covering maternity leave, and will report to SVP of Character Art & Prod Development, Global Creative Group based in New York.

This role will be responsible for overseeing product approvals for a variety of licensees, of both original content and pick-up content from our library plus assisting with in-house book development across our range of brands.

The senior designer will provide creative support to our partners and help to develop innovative and best-in-class publishing products. They will also help set design direction across Paramount’s successful portfolio including PAW Patrol, SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Garfield, Dora, Star Trek, MTV, Comedy Central brands and Paramount Pictures.

What will you be doing?

Product Development

  • Provide day-to-day design feedback and support to publishing partners through our PD system, to ensure product is on-brand and high quality across both 2D and 3D products from books to covermount gifts for magazines.
  • Provide design direction, creative support and feedback to licensees to ensure brand values and product quality are maintained.
  • Manage the covermount development, ensuring there are no conflicts in the market, and that all concepts receive approval from relevant stakeholders. Priorities alignment with our brands and sustainability in every covermount initiative.
  • Work with our style guides to set design direction for publishing across our new brands; deliver design direction to key creative partners; ensure its application across product.
  • Align with PD Editors to manage agents and agent markets across product development.
  • Attend development meetings with strategic partners and agents to discuss brand updates, assets, submissions process, and creative and innovative branding ideas. Develop and maintain successful working relationships both with the wider internal teams, agents, and external partners, and attend key licensee meetings and trade shows when relevant.

Creative

  • Working with partners and the Editorial Publishing Team to produce publishing development– including books, magazines, part works and collectibles across our portfolio of properties.
  • Create or amend book covers and layouts for partners when required.
  • Provide research, development and execution of original creative, as appropriate.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of creative trends and publishing products, including identifying potential new business opportunities.
  • Commissioning and developing novelty, story and activity books across our brand portfolio for pick-up. This may include working with external writers and designers, and therefore ensuring deadlines are maintained.
  • Commit to consistently improve creative development – push the creative boundaries of traditional approaches to develop innovative, business-relevant and original creative solutions for our brands.
  • Identify gaps in illustrations needed for partners to create original titles.

What are we looking for?

  • BA or Technical qualification, related to graphic design or the product field.
  • Minimum of 5 Years Experience in Design/Publishing with a good portfolio.
  • Strong knowledge and passion for children’s publishing, preferably using licensed characters.
  • Experience with covermount/magazine gift development is highly desired.
  • Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator & Photoshop) & Microsoft Office Programmes.
  • Excellent creative ability, strong attention to detail across typography, design and layout.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Pro-active team player and highly responsive to requests but can work independently.
  • Enthusiasm, energy, and a can-do attitude with a hunger to learn.
  • The ability to critically review own work.
  • Follows all Paramount’s core competencies and values.
