Parallel Resource are working with a leading regional contractor to source an experienced construction estimator to join a newly created division. Responsible for preparing and submitting tenders across various procurement methods. Collaborate with the team to secure profitable projects, applying construction expertise and commercial acumen for competitive bids. Manage risk and value during tenders and prepare budgets and cost plans.
Main Roles and Responsibilities
- Appraise tender documents to ensure thorough understanding and compliance.
- Coordinate material and sub-contract enquiries, including the selection of suitable subcontractors.
- Attend strategy and opportunity meetings with the project team to discuss key objectives.
- Conduct site visits to assess and identify specific site risks.
- Participate in design development and attend design team meetings to provide input.
- Compile tender Bills of Quantities in accordance with project requirements.
- Prepare detailed analytical cost estimates, including preliminaries.
- Develop budgets and cost plans to support financial decision-making.
- Evaluate and compare quotations from subcontractors for adjudication purposes.
- Raise technical queries and confirm that the design is sufficiently progressed for accurate costing.
- Manage risk throughout the tender period and prepare the Tender Risk Register.
- Implement value engineering during the design stage of design-and-build projects.
- Present the tender to senior management at settlement meetings, highlighting significant commercial considerations.
- Complete all necessary tender documentation and oversee submission procedures.
- Ensure seamless handover of the project to the on-site team.
Requirements for Submission
- An appropriate qualification in Construction, such as HND or Degree.
- Proficient in using Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience in analytical building estimating across all sectors such as industrial, commercial, education, and healthcare for projects ranging from £15m to £50m.
- Familiarity with various contract types, including traditional, partnering, design & build two-stage tenders, and frameworks.
- Experience with estimating software is desirable.
- Strong technical knowledge of construction.
- Understanding of Building Regulations and relevant industry standards.
- Commitment to developing personal skills and capabilities through ongoing training, experience, and mentoring.
- Knowledge of BREEAM.
- Awareness of BIM.
- Cost planning expertise.
