Parallel Resource is collaborating with a prominent tier one contractor to recruit an experienced and highly competent Design Manager for a key project within their portfolio. The client seeks a driven and technically proficient Design Manager to join their regional team in South Wales, delivering projects across Cardiff, Newport, and Monmouthshire. The company’s project pipeline encompasses a broad array of schemes; therefore, proven experience in the main contracting sector, particularly within Healthcare, Residential, Leisure, Defence, and Commercial projects valued between £10 million and £25 million, is required.

The successful candidate will work closely with Pre-Construction, Design Consultants, and commercial and operational teams to ensure that all designs align with programme objectives, budgets, and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mentor and support trainees and apprentices as appropriate.
  • Lead the design process on assigned projects, ensuring adherence to company procedures and producing high-quality deliverables.
  • Manage and coordinate design programmes, maintaining oversight of deadlines and information flow.
  • Chair and participate in design team meetings to foster effective collaboration among consultants, supply chain partners, and internal personnel.
  • Evaluate and challenge technical details to enhance buildability, promote value engineering, and uphold quality standards.
Essential Skills
  • Demonstrable experience as a Design Manager within a top tier contracting environment, including management of large-scale projects from preconstruction through to completion.
  • Advanced technical design skills and expertise.
  • Broad exposure to multiple sectors such as Education, Health, Commercial, Defence, Residential, and Leisure.
  • Strong record of leading and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Technical proficiency in the review of design details, drawings, and specifications.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration abilities, with the capacity to influence both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and drawing/Design software.
