This is an opportunity for an experienced Practice Accountant to join an established firm of accountants in the Newcastle upon Tyne area at a genuinely exciting point in its development. The firm is going through a period of positive change, with significant investment being made across its infrastructure, systems, technology and internal processes. This isn't change for the sake of it. It's being driven by the next generation of partners and directors who are focused on building a modern, forward-thinking accountancy practice that delivers a high-quality service to its clients and creates the right environment for its people.

The role would suit someone who enjoys taking ownership of their own portfolio of clients, building strong long-term relationships and playing a key role in making sure work is delivered properly, professionally and to a high standard. You will be involved in managing a varied client portfolio, helping to produce and finalise year-end accounts, reviewing work prepared by junior members of the team and acting as a trusted point of contact for clients. The focus of the role is not simply processing accounts. It is about managing relationships, understanding clients, supporting them properly and taking pride in the standard of work being delivered.

This would suit someone who already has strong experience in accountancy practice and wants to be trusted with real responsibility. You will have the opportunity to make a genuine difference to clients, support junior staff, improve processes and be part of a firm that is investing in the future. There is flexibility in what this role can become. If you are looking for a stable, well-run practice where you can do a good job, look after your clients and go home at the end of the day, that is absolutely fine. Equally, if career progression is important to you, there is plenty of opportunity to grow as the firm continues to move forward.

The role will involve:

  • Managing your own portfolio of clients
  • Building strong, long-standing client relationships
  • Overseeing the preparation and finalisation of year-end accounts
  • Reviewing work prepared by junior members of the team
  • Making sure accounts are completed accurately and to a high standard
  • Acting as a trusted contact for clients throughout the year
  • Supporting improvements in systems, processes and ways of working
  • Playing a key role in a firm that is investing in its future

The person:

You will need previous experience working within an accountancy practice and be comfortable managing client relationships. You may already be operating at Client Manager, Portfolio Manager, Senior Accountant, Practice Accountant or Accounts Manager level. You do not need to be someone who wants a high-pressure corporate environment. The firm is looking for someone who cares about doing things properly, enjoys working with clients and wants to be part of a positive, professional and evolving practice.

This role would suit someone who:

  • Has strong experience in accountancy practice
  • Enjoys managing client relationships
  • Takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work
  • Can review and support the work of junior staff
  • Likes the idea of having ownership of their own client portfolio
  • Wants to join a firm going through positive investment and change
  • Values a role where they can make a real difference to clients

Why this opportunity?

This is a chance to join an established accountancy firm with strong foundations, but one that is actively investing in the future. The business is improving its technology, processes and infrastructure, with a clear focus on creating a better, more modern practice for both clients and staff. For the right person, this is a role where you can take ownership, build trusted relationships, support good people around you and feel proud of the work you are doing.
