An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Manager, Children's Home Manager, or Residential Childcare Manager to lead a newly opened, purpose-built Children's Residential Home in Crook, County Durham. This is a unique opportunity to establish and develop a high-quality, therapeutic residential service from the ground up, supporting a young person with complex emotional, behavioural, and trauma-related needs. You will play a pivotal role in creating a safe, nurturing, and aspirational environment where young people can thrive and achieve positive outcomes.

About the Service

Our vision is simple: Excellence Through Understanding. We provide specialist residential childcare services for children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), trauma backgrounds, attachment difficulties, and complex care requirements. Using trauma-informed practice, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), therapeutic parenting principles, and the PACE approach, we create environments that promote stability, resilience, emotional wellbeing, and long-term success.

The Role

As Registered Manager, you will hold full responsibility for the registration, leadership, operational management, safeguarding, and regulatory compliance of the children's home. You will ensure the home consistently delivers outstanding care standards, positive outcomes, and a nurturing therapeutic environment while leading, developing, and inspiring a committed residential care team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the day-to-day operation of the children's residential home
  • Ensuring compliance with Ofsted regulations, Children's Homes Regulations 2015, and Quality Standards
  • Providing effective leadership, supervision, coaching, and performance management
  • Developing a positive, high-performing residential childcare team
  • Embedding trauma-informed and therapeutic care practices throughout the service
  • Promoting Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), PACE, and restorative approaches
  • Overseeing safeguarding, child protection, risk assessments, and behaviour management plans
  • Maintaining accurate records, reports, and regulatory documentation
  • Managing staffing levels, rotas, recruitment, and workforce development
  • Building strong relationships with Local Authorities, Social Workers, Education Providers, CAMHS, Healthcare Professionals, and Families
  • Preparing for and leading Ofsted inspections and monitoring visits
  • Driving continuous improvement, quality assurance, and service development
  • Supporting young people to achieve positive educational, social, emotional, and independence outcomes

Essential Requirements

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent qualification)
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a senior leadership role within a Children's Residential Care setting
  • Experience as a Registered Manager, Deputy Manager, Home Manager, or Children's Residential Manager
  • Strong understanding of Ofsted requirements, Children's Homes Regulations, and Quality Standards
  • Demonstrable experience supporting children with EBD, SEMH, trauma, attachment difficulties, and complex behaviours
  • Proven leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong safeguarding and child protection knowledge
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Desirable Experience

  • Experience opening, developing, or improving children's homes
  • Experience achieving Good or Outstanding Ofsted outcomes
  • Knowledge of therapeutic care models
  • Experience supporting young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary partnerships and external stakeholders
