About the Client – A Unique and Inspiring Role

We are supporting a young medical student (early 20s) who sustained a high-level spinal cord injury while on holiday from university. He is exceptionally bright, articulate, and determined to return to his studies and live as independently as possible. Despite everything he has been through, he has a positive, driven mindset and is fully engaged in his care and future. He lives in a fully adapted family home in Oxfordshire with a specialist care setup and strong family support. He is also one of a very small number of people in the UK to have a Neuralink implant, allowing him to control his laptop purely through thought. It is an incredible piece of technology and a fascinating environment to work in. This is a highly engaging and meaningful package, where you will build a genuine relationship and play a key role in supporting his long-term goals.

Clinical Complexity – ICU-Level Care at Home

This is a high-acuity package requiring confident critical care nurses:

  • Fully ventilated via tracheostomy
  • Complex airway clearance and respiratory support
  • Autonomic dysreflexia risk and blood pressure instability
  • Periods where the client may not be able to communicate changes in condition

This means:

  • Observation and clinical judgement are critical
  • Early recognition of deterioration is essential
  • You must be confident working independently

This is not routine care — it requires ICU-level thinking in a 1:1 setting.

Care Model

24/7 package 2:1 care at all times:

  • 1 x Critical Care RN
  • 1 x Complex HCA

You will be part of a small, consistent team, ensuring continuity and high-quality care.

Shift Pattern – NIGHTS ONLY (Fixed 4-Week Rota)

20:00–08:00

Pattern C

  • Week 1: Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat
  • Week 2: Wed, Thu, Sun
  • Week 3: Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat
  • Week 4: Wed, Thu, Sun

Pattern D

  • Week 1: Wed, Thu, Sun
  • Week 2: Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat
  • Week 3: Wed, Thu, Sun
  • Week 4: Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat

3–4 shifts per week

Fully predictable rota

Team Flexibility & Clinical Oversight

To maintain a safe and well-run package:

  • Occasional flexibility to support alternative shifts, including days if needed
  • Cross-over shifts for supervision, clinical oversight, and team consistency
  • Supporting sickness and annual leave cover where possible

As this is a small specialist team, we do need some flexibility so that night staff remain connected to the wider team and we can safely cover the rota when required.

Pay (PAYE Only) £41.82/hr
