The technician is responsible for carrying out all work to a high standard within this busy municipal workshop facility, ensuring adherence to vehicle maintenance and compliance regulations. The role involves ensuring that all paperwork and Fleet management system entries are completed accurately and promptly, and performing repairs, maintenance, and servicing on vehicles as required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Ensure all vehicles booked into the workshop have completed work or have been scheduled for re-visit repairs, and are safe to return to the customer.
- Actively repair daily driver defects reported by drivers, completing paperwork according to company procedures.
- Complete all required documentation for each task or job and submit immediately upon completion.
- Verify that ordered parts are correct for the work required.
- Assist other technicians with repairs and perform workshop controller duties as needed.
- Utilize the fleet management system (Fleetwave) effectively.
- Follow SFS Health and Safety policies, risk assessments, and safe work practices at all times.
- Maintain the workshop and parking areas, ensuring they are clean, vehicles are parked efficiently, keys are secure, and walkways are clear.
- Ensure all equipment used is safe, correctly used, and returned to proper storage; report any equipment failures to the workshop controller.
- Attend vehicle breakdowns as required, using provided workshop vehicles/vans.
- Return vehicles to customers only when safe to do so.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with staff, customers, and suppliers.
- Be prepared to be on standby 24/7 on a rotational basis.
- Maintain flexibility in duties to support workshop and customer needs.
- Perform any other reasonable duties as required.
About You
- Minimum of a full clean HGV driving license (Category C).
- At least 5 yearsβ technical experience with municipal vehicles (e.g., refuse, sweepers).
- Experience with vehicle electrical systems (12V & 24V), hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Qualifications and training such as an apprenticeship, VOSA vehicle inspection, municipal vehicle manufacturing training.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in MS Office and organizational skills to multitask and meet deadlines.
