About The Role
We are looking for a skilled Decorator to join our repairs team.
You will carry out internal and external decorating work across our homes, including preparation, painting, wallpapering, staining and finishing, damp and mould remedial work such as mould washes, stain blocking, redecoration and making-good following treatment programmes.
You will also complete "making-good" work, minor plaster repairs and other tasks linked to your trade.
You will work independently and as part of a wider team, delivering high-quality work, keeping residents informed and making sure repairs are completed safely and right first time.
You will use a company van and fuel card for business travel across our operating area.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical delivery
- Carry out internal and external decorating work in occupied and empty homes
- Prepare surfaces including filling, sanding, making good and minor plaster repairs
- Complete painting, staining, varnishing, wallpapering and finishing work
- Carry out damp and mould remedial work including mould washes, stain blocking and redecoration
- Work safely and to a high standard, following all regulations and codes of practice
- Order materials when needed and manage van stock responsibly
- Use PDA and repairs systems to update work orders and record materials used
- Report unsafe installations, compliance concerns or risks
- Service delivery
- Deliver repairs right first time wherever possible
- Work independently to diagnose issues and complete repairs
- Manage your workload efficiently and complete jobs within agreed timescales
- Provide clear updates to supervisors and managers when follow-on work is needed
- Minimise waste and use materials responsibly

- Communicate clearly and professionally with residents
- Keep residents informed about work, timescales and access needs
- Work respectfully in residents’ homes and leave work areas clean and safe
- Contribute to positive resident satisfaction through quality workmanship

- Follow all health and safety requirements, risk assessments and safe systems of work
- Use tools and equipment safely and maintain them appropriately

About you
Experience
- Experience carrying out internal and external decorating work in residential properties
- Experience working in social housing, domestic maintenance or responsive repairs
- Experience delivering high-quality, right-first-time repairs
- Experience diagnosing and resolving repeat repair issues
- Knowledge
- Strong decorating and finishing skills with high attention to detail
- Understanding of responsive repairs, work allocation and service standards
- Clear understanding of health and safety and safe systems of work
- Understanding of customer service and resident-focused delivery
- Awareness of value for money and efficient use of materials
- Working knowledge of repairs systems, scheduling tools and mobile technology
Skills
- Good communication and customer service skills

- NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Painting and Decorating, City and Guilds Level 3 Technical Certificate or equivalent
