About your role:
The Electrical Technical Sales Engineer will actively look for new opportunities with both new and existing clients, with a focus on leading pre-contract activities. They will have an ability to go to a customer’s site and visualise the end result, with an understanding of what is required electrically to deliver this vision.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Review private & public sector clients’ tenders/requirements for power and heating energy infrastructure package of works and produce outlines of technical solutions. The main technology types CBS use are CHP, Heat Pumps, Solar and Boilers.
- Survey sites, understand the single line diagram for the site’s electrical network and from this, identify potential points of connecting new equipment, from using existing LV ways to HV break ins for a new transformer.
- Arrange and facilitate client site survey(s) with specialist external contractors and partners.
- Collect client data, like the half-hourly electrical data to understand their capacity for a new generator or new electrical loads.
- Produce the basic outline for design and sizing of the technical solutions and associated energy, costs and environmental benefits.
- Communicate with internal teams/functions (e.g. Commercial, Finance, Engineering, Projects) to involve them in the sizing and definition of the technical solutions.
- Populate cost models with contractor quotes and where needed drive modelling software (e.g. PVsyst).
- Coordinate, collect and review specialist external contractors’ inputs into the models (if needed).
- Prepare and complete budgetary and final proposals for client submission.
- Support sales meetings with clients and lead on the technical aspects.
- Focus activities to ensure an optimum pace across the stages of the project life cycle from Qualification up to Contract award.
- Support sales colleagues and other Technical Sales Managers with the vetting and development of commercial opportunities in coordination with other functions of the business (e.g. Finance, Commercial, Engineering).
- Lead a continuous improvement process to improve the CBS processes and engineering, cost and environmental models.
- Contribute to Marketing activities (e.g. thought leadership pieces, articles, webinars).
- Contribute to the review of innovative technologies with credentials to enhance the CBS commercial value chain.
- Robust understanding of CBS core products. CHP (grid parallel generators), solar, heat pump and multi-technology energy centres and their mechanical and electrical engineering requirements.
- The ability to visit a site and identify a problem/requirement.
- A creative vision for ways of delivering a project electrically.
- Understanding of UK regulations for electrical installations.
- Robust understanding of engineering project costing tools and cost management processes.
- Experience of internal engineering resources coordination (minimum experience 2-5 yrs).
- Experience of external engineering contractors and installers relationship (minimum experience 2-5 yrs).
- Understanding of HSE requirements of energy infrastructure projects and regulations.
- Understanding of project financing approach and commercial vehicles (e.g. PPA…etc).
- Gravitas in dealing with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Initial understanding of the range of products and services offered by CBS.
- Experience of consultative selling techniques to listen and respond to customer needs.
- IT skills to collect, treat and manipulate energy data.
- Experience of providing onsite generation strategies to end customers.
- Strong analytical skills with an ability to summarise complex matters and effectively communicate and influence a range of audiences.
- Able to think strategically in assessing opportunities against the bigger picture and identifying potential risks and opportunities.
- Clear communication style with the ability to build strong relationships with internal teams. Confidence and credibility with sufficient presence to influence the decisions of senior management and the direction of the business.
- Ability to juggle conflicting demands and deliver work on-time every time to the highest possible standards to meet agreed deadlines.
- Ability to articulate complex energy-saving solutions including costs and savings calculations.
- Must work in a clear and methodical manner with complete transparency.
- Must be able to plan work and deliver to agreed deadlines.
