Role Overview
Panoramic Associates has partnered with North Hertfordshire District Council to recruit a Planning Solicitor to join their established legal team. The salary ranges between £42,000 – £57,000 per annum dependent upon experience; an additional car allowance of up to £3,000 is available for those with a strong local government background. The council offers permanent benefits including an employer pension contribution of 19% and flexible working policies such as hours and time‑off‑in‑lieu that allow additional leave days.
Main Responsibilities
- Handling a caseload of planning law matters including drafting s106 agreements
- Providing legal advice on a wide range of planning matters.
- Advising on highways matters
- Handling planning enforcement matters such as issuing planning enforcement notices.
- Attend planning committees on behalf of the local authority
Ideal Candidate
- At least 2-5 years PQE as a Planning Solicitor
- Previous experience working within a local authority
- Strong knowledge and understanding of planning law
- Preferably previous experience advising on highways law
- Flexible Working – Flexible start and finish times to allow a good work‑life balance & accommodate childcare pick‑up/appointments etc. Additionally compressed hours available.
- Flexi‑Time Scheme – You can bank additional hours worked and take the time back when suits you in the form of leave (up to 2 days per month).
- Holiday Entitlement – 26 days annual leave per annum minimum plus bank holidays, which increases with grade of position & tenure. Bank holidays are 8 per year + 3 statutory days off for Christmas Close, overall 37.
- Holiday Purchase Scheme – You can purchase up to 1 week of additional annual leave via the council\’s salary sacrifice team.
- Paid Volunteering Days – 2 days per year as paid leave.
- Christmas Close Down – Many of the council\’s services including legal typically close between Christmas & New Year.
- Professional Development/PC – Continued professional development is supported including potentially costs covered for ongoing training courses etc. Note that from October 2025 a PC renewal will be processed for permanent staff.
