Interim Senior Accountant- Children's A large London local authority client of mine is seeking an interim finance professional to provide critical additional capacity across Children's Social Care finance and Education finance (DSG/SEND) during a period of significant change. This assignment has been scoped to support a high-profile programme of work, including a service restructure bringing Children's and Education closer together, alongside preparation activity for a SEND Reform Plan submission. The purpose is to ensure the two areas remain aligned, key linking activity is delivered, and core teams are protected from burnout while business-as-usual continues. The role
You will act as a bridge between the Children's and Education finance accounts, providing practical support and coordination across both workstreams. This is not a niche “deep specialist” post in one technical area; the hiring manager is looking for someone who can operate comfortably across both domains, join dots, and keep delivery moving. Job spec Organisation: Local Authority Location: London Arrangement: 2 days/ week On site Rate of Pay: £400-£500/ day (DOE) Contract Length: 6 months Start date: ASAP Key responsibilities (likely to include)
Provide interim capacity across Children's Social Care finance and Education finance, with a focus on DSG/SEND. Support transformational / linking activity between the two areas so that plans, assumptions, reporting and governance align. Contribute to programme activity supporting the SEND Reform Plan submission and related finance work. Attend and support stakeholder sessions/workshops and ensure actions are progressed at pace. Maintain BAU coverage where required, ensuring priorities are balanced and delivery-focused. About you
Demonstrable experience in a UK local authority finance environment. Solid, working knowledge of:
Children's Social Care finance, and Education finance, including DSG/SEND funding frameworks (at least “conversationally confident” across both).
Ideally CCAB qualified (e.g., CIPFA/CIMA/ACCA or equivalent) — subject to final confirmation as the authority may apply strict qualification rules at this level.
