O Associates are supporting a major high-hazard industrial operator in the search for several experienced Process Safety Engineers to join a growing engineering and safety function. This is an excellent opportunity for a Chemical, Process, or Process Safety Engineer who enjoys combining technical engineering expertise with practical operational safety improvement across live industrial sites. The role offers exposure to complex COMAH-regulated operations, strong stakeholder engagement, and long-term progression opportunities within a well-established safety organisation.
Travel:
- This is a site-based engineering role with travel across multiple locations.
- Regular site visits expected.
- Occasional overnight stays required.
- Likely overnight travel about once per fortnight, typically 1-2 days away.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and participate in process safety studies including: HAZOP, LOPA, SIL Determination, Fault Tree Analysis.
- Support functional safety activities and risk-based engineering decisions.
- Review and interpret P&IDs, engineering documentation, and operational procedures.
- Conduct and support process hazard reviews and risk assessments.
- Contribute to technical reports, environmental risk assessments, and safety documentation.
- Work closely with Site Managers, Operations teams, vendors, and central engineering functions.
- Identify process safety gaps and challenge unsafe practices where necessary.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across multiple operational sites.
- Apply knowledge of relevant legislation including COMAH and DSEAR.
- Promote strong process safety culture and operational best practice.
Ideal Background:
- Degree-qualified in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or similar discipline.
- Around 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience within high-hazard or COMAH-regulated environments.
- Exposure to operational facilities and/or engineering design environments.
- Practical involvement in process safety studies and risk assessments.
- Strong understanding of: Process Safety Management, Functional Safety, P&IDs, Hazard Identification, Risk Mitigation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and operational stakeholders.
- Comfortable challenging decisions and driving safety improvements.
- NEBOSH qualification advantageous.
