Company Overview

At Panopto, we are the most customer-centric learning technology company in the world. As the leader in visual and audio-based learning, we empower organizations to share knowledge effortlessly in a capture and post-capture world. We don’t just build software; we obsess over our users’ goals to deliver solutions that truly matter. Our mission is simple: to attract the brightest talent, people like you, to Elevate the Craft and do the most impactful work of your career.

To enhance our team we are seeking an experienced Mid-Level DevOps Engineer who enjoys transforming complex, outdated build systems into streamlined, automated pipelines. You’re not just maintaining what exists—you take pride in building, improving, and modernizing the tools and processes that keep engineering running smoothly.

Position Summary

In this role, you will have the opportunity to do the most impactful work of your career, elevating your craft while contributing to a team that values lifelong learning. We are looking for a Mid-Level DevOps Engineer who finds genuine satisfaction in taking a tangled, "legacy" build process and turning it into a sleek, automated machine. You aren’t just someone who maintains scripts; you are a builder and a modernizer.

Your primary mission will be to assess our current CI/CD landscape, identify bottlenecks in our legacy pipelines, and implement modern strategies to accelerate our delivery lifecycle. You’ll be the bridge between "how we’ve always done it" and "how we should be doing it." You won't just be a "ticket-taker." We are looking for someone with an opinion. If you see a build process that takes 40 minutes and know you can get it down to 5, we will give you the autonomy to prove it. You will directly impact the daily quality of life for our entire engineering team. You’ll also have opportunities to contribute to other initiatives that directly advance our core values and support you in elevating your craft.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Modernize Pipelines: Evaluate existing legacy build and deployment workflows to identify inefficiencies and replace manual gates with high-speed automation.
  • Engineer Automation: Design and implement end-to-end CI/CD pipelines that incorporate automated testing and security scanning.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Transition manual setups into reproducible code using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation to ensure Clarity Over Complexity.
  • Standardize "Golden Paths": Establish consistent build artifacts and deployment patterns across environments to help developers move faster.
  • Drive Observability: Implement robust logging and alerting to ensure developers get immediate, actionable feedback on their builds.
  • Collaborate with Purpose: Partner with engineers to solve problems as they arise, balancing technical rigor with the agility needed in a high-growth environment.

How We Thrive

You’ll work with a team of talented engineers with a variety of areas of expertise, from devops to design, architecture to accessibility. The team’s experience level ranges from seasoned developers with well over a decade in industry to junior developers and contractors who are growing their roles and impact.

The Foundation for Success

  • Pipeline Mastery: 3–5 years in DevOps or SRE with a proven track record of migrating or upgrading legacy pipelines.
  • Modern Tooling: Deep expertise in industry-standard tools like GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.
  • Containerization: Strong experience with Docker and Kubernetes to modernize application packaging and deployment.
  • Automation Logic: Proficiency in Python, Bash, C#, or PowerShell to automate repetitive tasks.
  • The Modernizer’s Mindset: The patience to dig into older systems (XML, manual scripts) and the vision to replace them with elegant, modern alternatives.
  • Educational Foundation: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or a continuous pursuit of professional evolution.

What Sets You Apart

  • Experience in high-growth tech or private equity-backed environments.
  • A background in transitioning monolithic build systems to microservices-based architectures.

What Success Looks Like

  • Within 6 Months (Integration and Audit): You will have audited our primary legacy pipelines and identified the top three bottlenecks. You'll become a trusted partner by delivering your first automated "Golden Path" for a specific service, reducing manual intervention by at least 30%.
  • Within 1 Year (First Measurable Impact): You will have successfully migrated major legacy workflows to a modern CI/CD framework. Your work will be measurable through a 20% reduction in average build times and a significant decrease in deployment-related failures.
  • Your Legacy (Full Ownership): You will have established a culture of "Infrastructure as Code" where manual environment drift is a thing of the past. You will be the architect of a delivery system that allows Panopto engineers to focus entirely on innovation rather than troubleshooting the build.

Join Panopto and be part of an exciting journey where your expertise will directly shape the speed and quality of how we deliver software. If you’re ready to Elevate the Craft of DevOps, we encourage you to apply.
