Position Title: GRP Laminator
Location: Paneltex Ltd, Somerden Road, Hull, HU9 5PE
Reporting to: Supervisor/Team Leader
Hours of work: 40 hours per week – Monday to Thursday 08:00 to 17:00 and Friday 08:00 to 14:00
Salary: £12.50 to £14.50 per hour DOE

Job Overview
Working in a team environment you will work on a range of parts. You will need to read and understand lay-up drawings and use your laminating skills to carry out the required workload to the lay-up specification. You will also need to utilise your skills to query any error or change that you may observe on any particular job.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Apply lacquers and waxes to mould surfaces to facilitate assembly and removal of laminated parts.
- Apply layers of plastic resin to mould surfaces prior to placement of fiberglass mats, repeating layers until products have the desired thicknesses and plastics have bonded.
- Check all dyes, templates, and cut out patterns to be used in the manufacturing process to ensure that they conform to dimensional data, photographs, blueprints, samples, and/or customer specifications.
- Check completed products for conformance to specifications and for defects by measuring with rulers or micrometres, by checking them visually for air voids and heat distortion, this will assist with the finishing process.
- Cure materials by letting them set at room temperature, placing them under heat lamps, or baking them in ovens.
- Inspect, clean, and assemble moulds before beginning work.
- Mask off mould areas which are not to be laminated, using cellophane, wax paper, masking tape, or special sprays containing mould-release substances.
- Mix catalysts into resins, and saturate cloth and mats with mixtures, using brushes.
- To measure mixes safely and ensure chemicals and materials are disposed of within COSHH regulations.
- Pat or press layers of saturated mat or cloth into place on moulds, using brushes or hands, and smooth out wrinkles and air bubbles with hands or squeegees.
- Release air bubbles and smooth seams, using rollers.
- Repair or modify damaged or defective glass-fibre parts, checking thicknesses, densities, and contours to ensure a close fit after repair.
- Place resins, and catalysts onto prepared moulds or dyes using pneumatic spray guns.
- Trim excess materials from moulds, using hand shears or trimming knives.
- Ability to work as part of a team that is working toward continuous improvements.
- Be familiar with the companys Health and Safety Policies and in particular with your responsibilities.
- Comply with all relevant internal rules, policies and procedures, included in the company handbook.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Adhere to standards of hygiene and safety established by respective authorities.
- Ability to follow Safe System of work and company policies when using chemicals.
- Apply preliminary treatment to workpieces
- Remove air bubbles from fibreglass
- Follow training and use brushes and rollers to eliminate air bubbles that could weaken the fibreglass, to ensure perfect adherence of the resin to the product shell or to previous layers, and to avoid any structural defects.
- Wear relevant and necessary protective gear, such as protective goggles or other eye protection, overalls, safety gloves.
- Use hand tools or power tools.
- Follow training to select pre-cut fibreglass mats to laminate surfaces of products according to technical plans and specifications.
- Apply plastic resin mixture, by using a brush or rollers, to the fibreglass mat. Press saturated mat into the mould to remove air bubbles and wrinkles, using a roller.
- Be able to identify GRP defects understand what causes them and how to prevent reoccurrence
- Effective communication includes speaking, writing, active listening and taking instructions.
- Ability to prioritise and organise workload in order to meet deadlines.
- Good understanding of Health and Safety.
- Excellent work ethic and team player.
- Excellent timekeeping and attendance.
