Panda Recycling are seeking a Maintenance Fitter to carry out maintenance and repair works in accordance with the operational and maintenance plan. Working within the available budget in order to improve operational reliability and availability of the plant and machinery at the lowest effective maintenance costs for all equipment, installations and buildings on site. Ensuring all works carried out are done so with Health, Safety, Environmental and Product Quality standards being the priority.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To abide by & promote health & safety, ensuring all approved company safety policies & processes and other relevant legislation is followed ensuring compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • To provide mechanical repair and maintenance skills including fault identification, analysis to facilitate repairs, improvements, inspections, adjustments and refurbishments to agreed standards.
  • Provide good skill level and ability in general bench fitting including fitting of keys, shaft pulleys, gears, couplings, rolling element and plain bearings.
  • Servicing, fault diagnosis and rectification of hydraulic and pneumatic system through interpretation of system drawing and equipment manual.
  • Installation, condition monitoring and maintenance of gear reducers and clutch systems through fault diagnose, disassemble repair and rebuilding / refurbish of units to agreed standard.
  • Where required the carry out of basic MIG and MMA welding and fabrication processes.
  • Carry out of mechanical maintenance, inspection and repair of Waste processing machinery (Shredders, separators, trommels etc), bulk storage equipment (silos, vessels, hoppers, etc.), transport systems (belt conveyors, drag chain, etc.) packing and baler systems.
  • Plan, rig, sling and act as banksman for simple lifting operations. Where trained and competent operate powered hoists, pendant type.
  • Basic welding & fabrication of equipment guarding, safety fences, etc. to agreed standard.
  • Ensuring work areas are kept clear at all times and that unused or waste material are returned to stores or properly disposed of at all times.
  • Ensure maintenance work is completed in a safe and timely manner and where required details of work carried out is reported to relevant Supervisor and recorded on Maintenance management systems.
  • Ensure that tools required for tasks are kept in good condition and that all defects are reported immediately.
  • Performing other duties as requested by your maintenance supervisor and management team.

Required Skills & Experiences:

  • Completed a recognised Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship, City & Guilds Mechanical qualification or relevant NVQ Level 3.
  • Previous Mechanical maintenance experience gained within the Recycling Industry medium / heavy industry, quarrying, process industry, etc.
  • General steel fabrication.
  • Basic MMA and MIG Welding.
  • Knowledge of Industry safe standards and systems of work, including equipment isolation and permitting systems.
  • Knowledge of removal, fitting and maintenance of rolling element bearings.
  • Principles of basic bench fitting and engineering standards.
  • Basic operation and data input using main stream computer operating systems, windows, apple, android, etc.

Desirable Skills & Experiences (not mandatory):

  • Rigging & slinging.
  • MEWP / IPAF trained.
  • Working at height / harness Training.
  • Abrasive Wheels Trained.
  • Fork lift / telehandler trained.
  • IOSH Working Safely.
  • Alignment of drives including motor, fans, gearboxes, etc.
  • Repair on conveyor belting.
  • Proven experience and fault finding and problem solving on a range of mechanical process equipment.
  • Basic condition monitoring techniques for medium / heavy industrial equipment.
  • Repair and maintenance techniques.
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic circuits and component operation.
  • Ability to read and fully understand 2D equipment drawings and hydraulic / pneumatic circuit drawings.
