At Panda, we’re looking for a skilled Fabricator-Welder to join our Fabrications team in Barkston. This is a hands-on role where you’ll repair, maintain and refurbish waste containers to a high standard, making sure they are safe, functional, presentable and ready for customer use. As a Fabricator-Welder at Panda, you’ll be part of a busy operational environment where quality workmanship, safe working practices and attention to detail really matter.

What you’ll be doing

  • You’ll carry out a range of welding, fabrication and repair work, supporting the smooth running of the fabrication yard and wider maintenance operation.
  • Your role will include:
    • Carrying out welding, grinding, cutting, burning and general fabrication duties as assigned by the Fabrications/Maintenance Manager
    • Repairing and maintaining waste containers, ensuring they are fully functional, safe and presentable for customer use
    • Maintaining machinery, tools and equipment to a high standard, promptly reporting any defects
    • Working collaboratively with the welding and fabrication team and approved third-party contractors
    • Ensuring all work areas are free from hazards before starting tasks
    • Maintaining good housekeeping standards within the fabrication yard at all times
    • Supporting the maintenance workshop with tasks as required
    • Cleaning down your work area at the end of each shift and following safe working practices
    • Completing and submitting relevant documentation such as log sheets, tool checks, inspection reports and other required paperwork
    • Communicating professionally with customers, colleagues and site personnel while representing Panda

Health and safety

Safety is central to how we work at Panda. You’ll be expected to follow company procedures, use the correct PPE and carry out hot works in line with HSE guidelines and company permit-to-work procedures. You’ll also be expected to:

  • Comply with all company Health & Safety policies, procedures and safe systems of work
  • Ensure correct use of PPE at all times
  • Immediately report any hazards, unsafe conditions, near misses or incidents to the Fabrications Manager
  • Participate in SHEQ workshop tours

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with strong fabrication and welding experience, good practical judgement and a safety-first approach. You’ll need:

  • NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Fabrication & Welding, or equivalent
  • Proven experience in MIG welding, with additional welding processes beneficial
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings
  • Experience using grinders, cutting equipment and general fabrication tools
  • Good understanding of workshop Health & Safety practices
  • Strong practical and mechanical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • A reliable, safety-driven and proactive approach
  • Full UK driving licence, if operationally required

It would be useful if you also have:

  • BS EN ISO 9606-1 Welding Qualification, or equivalent coding/certification
  • IPAF or PASMA certification for working at height
  • Forklift Truck licence, such as counterbalance or telehandler
  • Experience working in waste, recycling, manufacturing or heavy-duty engineering environments
  • Hot Works and Fire Safety awareness training
  • First Aid at Work certification
