The Role
This is a key operational role where you will take ownership of driver compliance, fleet risk and transport safety standards across the business. Working closely with the UK Fleet Manager and operational teams, you will ensure we operate safely, remain fully compliant with legislation, and continuously improve driver performance and behaviour. This role suits someone who thrives in a fast‑paced transport environment, enjoys working with data and people, and takes a proactive approach to safety and compliance.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Compliance & Governance
- Ensure full compliance with DVSA regulations and Operator Licence requirements
- Monitor and manage Driver Hours and Working Time Regulations, ensuring all infringements are addressed appropriately
- Oversee tachograph compliance, including analysis, reporting and audit readiness
- Maintain accurate compliance records and documentation
- Driver Safety & Performance
- Act as the business lead for Driver Compliance and Fleet Risk
- Drive improvements in driver behaviour, road safety and operational standards
- Carry out vehicle gate checks and ensure defects are resolved and addressed through training
- Investigate incidents and complaints, implementing corrective actions
- Reporting & Insight
- Produce monthly compliance and governance reports covering: Driver hours and infringements, Vehicle incidents, Driver assessments and training
- Use data and insights to identify trends and improve performance
- Training & Engagement
- Deliver toolbox talks and safety briefings
- Support driver training aligned to company policies and the Driver Handbook
- Keep drivers informed of legislative updates, procedural changes and best practice
- Build strong working relationships across Fleet, Operations and Service Delivery teams
- Communication & Continuous Improvement
- Act as a key point of contact for compliance‑related issues
- Proactively identify risks and implement solutions to improve efficiency and safety
- Support a culture of accountability, safety and continuous improvement
What You’ll Bring
- Strong understanding of transport compliance and Operator Licence requirements
- Solid knowledge of Driver Hours, Tachograph Regulations and Working Time Directive
- Experience working within a transport or fleet environment
- Ability to analyse data and translate it into actionable insights
- A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Confident communicator, able to engage drivers and stakeholders at all levels
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
Essential Requirements
- CPC (National or International) – Road Haulage
- Category B Driving Licence
- Experience in transport compliance / fleet operations
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation
Desirable
- Knowledge of dangerous goods or hazardous waste regulations
- Experience with Earned Recognition accreditation
- IOSH Managing or Leading Safely
- LGV Licence
