The Hussmann Service/Installation Technician Intern will assist with the Service, Installation, and Warehouse teams with the completion of their tasks by performing such functions as furnishing tools, materials and supplies to other workers, maintaining a clean work area, machines and tools and holding materials or tools for others workers. The summer internship will run from the second week of May through the end of August. These dates may be changed to meet the needs of the student. Interns will work up to 40 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Assist in performing prescribed, routine maintenance procedures on supermarket refrigeration systems and self-contained temperature-controlled merchandisers, developing a basic knowledge of self-contained refrigeration, and HVAC units.
- Assist with day-to-day maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs for convenient stores, small format, and supermarkets to include compressor change assists.
- Detect refrigeration leaks and assist with the repair of leaks on racks or single-unit piping, condenser, and evaporator coil cleaning.
- Assist and develop electrical troubleshooting skills, developing an understanding of basic electrical schematics including volts, amps, ohms.
- Assist with the shipping and receiving of materials, staging and inventory.
- Assist with the assembly of gang boxes and job materials for projects.
- Assist with the positioning of vehicles, machinery, equipment, and other objects for assembly, installation, and/or service.
- Ability to visit job sites as needed to deliver and exchange parts, tools or equipment as needed.
- Follow safety protocols in place in the company.
Qualifications
- Active enrollment in a Technical College HVAC/R program in good academic standing, working toward a certificate or associate degree.
- Developing skills in use and operation of tools of the HVAC and refrigeration trade (brazing, electrical, etc.).
- EPA certification (universal) for refrigerant handling preferred.
