Job Description Hussmann's Internship Program provides a meaningful, real-life experience while working as a solutions leader for the food retailing industry.

Hussmann interns receive competitive compensation, participate in community stewardship, network with company leadership, and learn about career opportunities available at Hussmann.

The 2027 Hussmann Summer Internship Program will provide the HR Operations summer intern with an opportunity to see all areas of HR Operations including HRIS, Legal Compliance, Benefits, and Compensation.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is very organized, has an interest in systems, compliance, benefits, compensation and data, and wants an opportunity to see how HR Operations works.

Responsibilities

  • Network with senior leaders, associates, and other program interns to learn about our organization.
  • Attend tours of Hussmann's 1.6 million square foot manufacturing facility, our Global Hub, and the R&D Lab.
  • Participate in community stewardship outreach, offsite, and career development events.
  • Compete in our annual Ideation & Innovation Challenge.

  • Partner with the HR Compliance Team
  • Learn how employment laws and regulatory requirements influence HR policies, programs, and business decisions.
  • Assist with policy and procedure reviews, documentation, and compliance-focused research.
  • Partner With The HR Benefits Team
  • Learn the fundamentals of benefit plan administration and compliance across the employee lifecycle, including eligibility, enrollment, plan changes, and retirement benefits.
  • Support open enrollment preparation by helping organize project timelines, materials, employee communications, and data.
  • Gain exposure to collaboration among Benefits, employees, vendors, Payroll, and HRIS to resolve questions and support effective program delivery.
  • Learn how benefit programs and leave policies work together by supporting leave administration, benefits continuation, employee communications, and research on benefits-related policies and best practices.
  • Partner with HRIS Analysts and Workday System Specialists
  • Learn how Workday supports employee transactions, business processes, reporting, analytics, security, and other HR operations.
  • Understand how employee data is entered, maintained, validated, and transformed into information that supports workforce analysis and business decisions.
  • Assist with business process mapping, standard operating procedures, data reviews, system testing, and documentation.
  • See how HRIS analysts translate business requirements into system configuration and process improvements.
  • Partner With The Compensation Team
  • Learn how compensation programs support the company’s talent strategy, business objectives, and employee experience.
  • Gain exposure to market pricing, job analysis, salary structures, merit processing, and incentive plan administration.
  • Assist with compensation data analysis, audits, and process improvement documentation.
  • Understand how Compensation collaborates with HRIS, Payroll, Finance, and HR partners to deliver accurate and equitable programs.
  • Ideation & Innovation Challenge

Throughout the twelve-week program, Hussmann interns will compete with a team of fellow interns in the Hussmann Ideation & Innovation Challenge.

After being divided into cross-functional groups, interns will work to find a solution to the provided problem statement.

They will then present the solution to a panel of judges, executive leaders, and the organization to compete in the IIC competition.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in school pursuing a minimum of a bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to set priorities, manage multiple projects, and demonstrate strong attention to detail
  • Highly motivated and eager to learn
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to relocate, if not local

The summer internship will run from the third week of May through the second week of August. These dates may be changed to meet the needs of the student.
