Join our dynamic engineering team to support and develop new products for a leader in the Food Retailing Industry. This position will support a variety of new and existing products and projects. The Design Engineer will work within our engineering team to support the execution of large and small product releases, collaborating with cross‑functional teams (Product Management, Manufacturing, Program Management, Supply Chain, etc.) to deliver the promise of continuously providing the most customer‑focused solutions in the Food Retail Industry.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Lead Engineers on conceptual design and overall development of refrigerated display cases.
  • Design for Manufacturing using knowledge in formed sheet metal, fabricated copper tubing, electrical assemblies, welded structural frames, product sub‑assemblies, and top‑level system assemblies.
  • Understand customer needs and follow the processes required for developing and releasing the product at a high‑quality level, on‑time to customer request.
  • Plan and coordinate implementation of product releases within the PLM system.
  • Support the improvement of the overall innovation, quality, function, and cost of the product.
  • Initiate studies of new and existing designs to incorporate new cost‑effective technology and maintain our competitive edge.
  • Collaborate with a project team of multi‑functional and multi‑departmental personnel for on‑time release of quality and cost‑effective products.
  • Perform hands‑on troubleshooting efforts and implement corrective actions for products, processes, and tooling.
  • Deliver accuracy of all engineering information issued regarding assigned projects, including PLM attributes, BOM structure, product specifications, test reports, design review documentation, etc.
  • Participate in engineering gate review deliverables within the design release process (Design Reviews, DFMEAs, DVP&R, etc.).
  • Support the completion of programs on schedule and on budget, meeting all technical and customer requirements.
  • Validate new designs through prototype builds and first‑article inspections, and support the resolution of any issues identified on the manufacturing floor.
  • Maintain technical competence and up‑to‑date knowledge on all relevant mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and computer technologies; attend training courses as needed.
  • Support the development of test plans and configurations, support test execution, and analyze/report test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Execute tasks with minimal direction.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of product design and evaluation experience for refrigerated products.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Competent using 3D solid modeling (SolidEdge preferred).
  • Ability to review and interpret CFD and FEA simulation results.
  • Proficiency in explaining simulation data to the engineering team and translating results into actionable design improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills, oral & written.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Project management experience and a general understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Hands‑on experience setting up CFD or FEA models, including meshing, defining material properties, and applying accurate loads and boundary conditions.
  • Ability to validate and extract results from raw simulation data, generate visual plots (contours/streamlines), and interpret quantitative values to verify design performance.
  • Understanding of refrigeration systems, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and structural analysis principles; basic electrical component knowledge.
  • Sheetmetal design experience a plus.
  • Experience with PLM systems (Teamcenter, Windchill, etc.).
  • Experience with MRP systems (Oracle, Mapics, BAAN, etc.).
