The MRP Buyer is responsible for planning and purchasing raw materials, components, and supplies based on the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system to support production and ensure on‑time delivery. This position ensures optimal inventory levels, supplier performance, and cost control while maintaining compliance with company policies and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze MRP reports to determine material requirements and purchasing priorities.
  • Place purchase orders for raw materials, components, and indirect items according to production schedules.
  • Monitor and follow up on purchase orders to ensure on‑time delivery and avoid production interruptions.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels to support manufacturing operations and reduce excess or obsolete inventory.
  • Communicate with suppliers to confirm lead times, pricing, and order status.
  • Coordinate with Production, Planning, Warehouse, and Quality teams to ensure material availability.
  • Resolve supply issues, delays, and discrepancies in collaboration with suppliers and internal departments.
  • Support cost reduction initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
  • Track supplier performance including delivery, quality, and responsiveness.
  • Maintain accurate and updated information in ERP/MRP systems (such as SAP, Oracle, or similar).
  • Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and procedures.
  • Participate in inventory cycle counts and physical inventory activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in purchasing, supply chain, or planning within a manufacturing environment (maquiladora preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of MRP and ERP systems.
  • Understanding of inventory control, production planning, and supply chain processes.
  • Intermediate to advanced English proficiency (spoken and written).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced and cross‑functional environment.
