Job Overview

Consultant Psychiatrist – General Adult Psychiatry (Birkenhead Community Mental Health) at Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Full‑time role (10 PA’s) with an annual salary of £109,725‑£145,478. The post is permanent, in the Stein Centre, St Catherine\'s Hospital, Tranmere, and will commence on a fixed start date in line with the Prepare to Care induction programme.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage, appraise and supervise junior medical staff in line with Trust policies and the Modernising Medical Careers framework.
  • Perform administrative duties related to patient care.
  • Record clinical activity accurately and submit to the Information Department promptly.
  • Participate in service and business planning at the local and whole‑service level.
  • Take part in annual consultant appraisal and job plan review.
  • Attend and contribute to the Trust’s academic programme, including lectures and seminars.
  • Maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval, and professional conduct codes.
  • Collaborate with managers and colleagues to run services efficiently and provide medical input to management.

Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Essential: Fully registered with the GMC and licensed to practise at appointment; on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months; approved clinician status or able to achieve within three months; approved under S12 or able to achieve within three months.
  • Desirable: GMC standing free of warning conditions.

Professional Registration

  • General Medical Council (GMC) registration – licence to practise at appointment.
  • Specialist register (within six months) or approval within three months.
  • Approval under Mental Health Act Section 12(2) and Maintenance Criminal Law Act.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance.

Clinical Skills & Experience

  • Essential: Clinical knowledge in adult psychiatry, proficient use of a biopsychosocial perspective, excellent communication skills, management of clinical complexity, decision‑making based on evidence.
  • Desirable: Broad specialist or sub‑specialist experience relevant to the NHS, higher degree or MRCPsych, additional clinical qualifications.
