We’re looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join the busy and successful Children’s Rights team, offering administrative support to assist the team in reaching our sales targets. This is an exciting opportunity to join an award-winning publisher at a key point of growth.
Your team:
The Rights Department is responsible for sales of co-edition and subsidiary rights across the whole children’s publishing division, which includes the imprints of Macmillan Children’s Books, First Ink,Two Hoots, Preschool, Campbell, Kingfisher, Priddy and Neon Squid. We work closely with our sister companies in New York and Frankfurt, but also with other international publishers, whether big or small, to find the right homes for our authors and illustrators. We work directly with publishers throughout the world, and through co-agents in some Asian markets.
Your role:
As the Rights Assistant, you will play a pivotal role by facilitating administrative and sales support to help the team reach their targets. You will act as a key point of contact between Rights, Editorial, Royalties, Production, Contracts and other in-house teams, as well as a wide range of external customers.
Your key responsibilities:

Providing administrative and sales support for the Children’s Rights team

Administering and processing co-edition and sub-rights contracts, from deals being agreed to contracts being raised, signed, and invoiced

Data entry and accurate upkeep of our publishing database (Biblio), and generating reports from Biblio

Assisting with creating rights guides and gathering materials for book fairs and overseas trips

Organizing book fair and sales trip schedules

Attending international book fairs, carrying out reception duties there, should the opportunity arise, and assisting with the organization of any book fair author and illustrator events

Sending out follow-up material after book fairs and sales trips

Liaising with the Production team and external customers regarding customer packing and shipping requirements

Maintaining and building strong working relationships with colleagues and customers.
Essential experience, abilities and knowledge you’ll need to succeed:

Highly efficient, organized and proactive with ability to prioritize a demanding workload

Proven ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team

Ability to pick up new processes and maintain meticulous accuracy in your work

Experience working with systems and tools such as MS Office and Google Workspace

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Willingness and ability to travel internationally to major book fairs

Fluency in a foreign language or languages. Spanish and German are preferred.

Proven passion for working in a busy international sales environment within Children’s Book publishing

Demonstrable detailed understanding of the role of a rights department showcased in your application.

This is a full time, permanent role, and will be based in our offices in Farringdon, London, with some flexibility to work from home each week.
