About the Role

Location and type: Telford — Full-time — Permanent role.

We’re looking for a hands-on Pattern Tooling Technician to join our Pattern Shop team in Telford. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting the quality, efficiency, and sustainability of cast iron production. You’ll be responsible for assembling, maintaining, and improving pattern tooling to ensure castings meet exacting standards - right first time. Working closely with production, technical, and quality teams, you’ll help minimise downtime, reduce waste, and improve tooling reliability.

Responsibilities:

  • Assembling pattern and core box tooling from drawings, components, or existing equipment
  • Finishing tooling to required standards for production use
  • Diagnosing and repairing tooling faults to maintain production flow
  • Maintaining, servicing, and modifying tooling to meet quality requirements
  • Supporting tooling development, including allowances (e.g. shrinkage, machining, draft)
  • Selecting appropriate materials such as timber, resin, and metal for repairs
  • Collaborating with Technical, Production, Machining, and Quality teams
  • Inspecting tooling for condition, performance, and usability
  • Identifying improvements to increase efficiency and repeatability
  • Maintaining workshop equipment and records
  • Working safely and in line with all health, safety, and quality standards

What You’ll Need:

  • Experience using hand tools and workshop machinery
  • Basic understanding of materials (wood, metal, resin, composites)
  • Ability to read engineering drawings (training available)
  • Basic inspection and measurement skills
  • Awareness of manufacturing or foundry processes (desirable)

After 12 months: A trusted member of the Pattern Shop team; Demonstrating strong progression toward pattern making skills.

Working Pattern: Full-time role; Rotating 4-day shift pattern.
