The Senior Analyst plays a central role in delivering high-quality humanitarian analysis within EWAR. This role leads the design and production of analytical outputs, supports methodological innovation, and ensures that insights are timely, evidence-based, and actionable. The Senior Analyst will work closely with the Team Leader and other EWAR colleagues to shape FCDO’s understanding of humanitarian risks and responses. This role requires a high degree of flexibility; the role will sit in the Early Warning and Foresight (EWF) Team but will be required to work across all aspects of EWAR’s work.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Analytical Leadership
    • In collaboration with the EWF team, lead the delivery of the Humanitarian Early Warning Note (HEWN).
    • Develop and refine analytical methodologies, including risk indices, severity scoring, and response frameworks.
    • Ensure analysis integrates qualitative and quantitative data and reflects operational realities.
    • Collaborate closely with MCD analysts and other FCDO analysts to ensure coherent approaches to early warning analysis.
    • Support briefings and presentations to senior audiences.
  • Foresight and Scenario Planning
    • Contribute to the integration of foresight methodologies into EWAR’s analytical products and facilitate FCDO scenario-building exercises.
    • Collaborate with data scientists, meteorologists, and external experts to build mixed-methods approaches to foresight.
    • Contribute to cross-government risk processes (e.g. NSRA, CRI) with humanitarian inputs.
  • Response Information and Analysis
    • Act as Senior Analyst or HAO during FCDO crisis response.
    • Act as technical backstop for deployed roster members on rotation.
    • Act as in-hours monitor and fulfil role of Duty Officer on rotation, providing week-long out of hours surveillance of emergencies.
    • Support development and update of sudden onset monitoring technical guidance and SOPs and IMA Toolkit with relevant team members.
    • Support EWAR's readiness and preparedness activities.
  • Risk Management
    • Be aware of potential risks to effective and responsible programme management and contribute to mitigation measures according to job role.
    • Be familiar with and actively participate in established risk management procedures, including reporting issues against identified risks and failures of mitigation measures.
    • Contribute to risk assessment activities and suggest improvements.
  • Other Duties
    • The post holder will be required to deploy at very short notice to support an FCDO response for minimum of 4 weeks for up to 40% of their time.
    • Participate in HEST training and work to mitigate safety and security threats for self and others.
    • Contribute to HEROS contract monthly, quarterly, annual contractual reporting on specialist portfolio, and provide support as requested in support of results-based reporting.
    • Support business Transition and Exit Planning: Play a pivotal role in adapting to system upgrades and organizational changes, ensuring the workforce is aligned with future business needs. Lead on providing data inputs during the transition phase.
    • This position follows Palladium’s hybrid working policy, requiring a minimum attendance of three days in the office.
    • As appropriate, engage with Palladium UKEA regional team fora and initiatives.
    • Undertake any other duties as appropriate to the position, as requested.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong experience in humanitarian analysis, early warning, or information management.
  • Proven ability to synthesise complex data into clear, actionable insights.
  • Familiarity with humanitarian architecture and operational response mechanisms.
  • Experience working with government, UN, or INGO partners in crisis contexts.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with government systems, particularly FCDO, and cross-government coordination.
  • Research and field experience with INGOs, UN agencies, or similar organisations.
  • Act with integrity, reliability, and respect in all interactions.
  • Represent Palladium positively in all professional settings.
  • Take ownership of tasks and responsibilities.
  • Deliver work to agreed standards and deadlines.
  • Follow through on commitments and raise concerns early when issues arise.

Candidates must have the Right to work in the UK and should be UK resident for 2 years in the last 5 years to be considered for this post.
