The Strategic Buyer is responsible for establishing long‑term purchase orders/contracts in SAP and approving purchase orders below a given threshold. Additionally, you will manage overall vendor communication, negotiate and mitigate price increase requests. This position reports to the Supplier Relationship Manager and is part of the Strategic Sourcing Team located in Redruth. It will be an on‑site role with periodic travel to visit suppliers.
In This Role, You Will Have The Opportunity To:
- Establish long‑term purchase orders/contracts in SAP, approve purchase orders below a given threshold, maintain up‑to‑date purchasing information records, manage source lists in accordance with commodity strategy and supplier quality guidance, and keep vendor master data up‑to‑date to enable and streamline tactical PO placement.
- Manage overall vendor communication, negotiate and mitigate price increase requests, maintain favourable payment terms, participate in supplier visits and meetings as required, rationalize, develop and transition suppliers (outsourcing, insourcing, vendor to vendor).
- Identify, execute, and sustain projects in support of the Global Commodity Strategy, add and maintain projects in the iSource Project Management Tool, pursue Pall Industrial Sourcing KPI targets in purchase price change (PPC), purchase price variance (PPV), supplier days payable outstanding (DPO), value analysis value engineering (VAVE), supplier on‑time delivery (OTD), e‑auctions, request for quotations (RFQs), and purchase volume (PVO), and support the ongoing sourcing visual management process to meet project timelines and maintain cross‑functional accountability.
- Support, monitor, and mentor the site materials team members; work in accordance with escalation procedures to mitigate disruptive material shortage; ensure purchasing policies and strategies are understood and implemented; partner with relevant site‑level stakeholders (Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, etc.) to facilitate project completion; and interface with Materials Team to ensure manufacturing site inputs/requirements align with commodity strategy.
The Essential Requirements Of The Job Include:
- Educated to A‑level standard; professional qualification such as CIPS or with experience in a similar role.
- Ideally experience working with MRP systems such as SAP, Excel, PowerPoint, and supplier databases.
- Aerospace and/or manufacturing site experience would be advantageous.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
- Ability to travel both nationally and internationally up to once per month as required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
