Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Financial Controller ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of payroll processing across the group and its subsidiaries.
- Management and development of the payroll team (currently 2 staff).
- Ensuring the end-to-end processing of multiple weekly and monthly payrolls (600+ employees).
- Overseeing the integration between HR, timekeeping, and payroll systems to ensure smooth data flow.
- Maintaining and improving system configurations, workflows, and reporting.
- Payroll Process Improvement & Compliance.
- Developing and documenting clear payroll procedures and controls to meet the evolving needs of the business.
- Monitoring changes in legislation and ensuring payroll processes remain compliant.
- Partnering with HR and Finance to streamline cross-departmental processes and reporting.
- Building strong working relationships with HR, Finance, and operational managers.
- Producing payroll-related financial reports, cost analysis, and headcount data to support business decision-making.
- Providing insights on labour costs, overtime trends, and other KPIs.
- Liaising with external bodies such as HMRC, auditors, and pension providers.
- Overseeing payroll year-end activities, including P11Ds, PSAs, and audits.
- Ensuring accurate statutory submissions and reconciliation of all payroll accounts.
Qualifications & Compensation
- Applicants will ideally be fully Qualified CIPP payroll professionals although the relevant Payroll Management experience is more important than the qualification level and CIPP level 3 and above will be considered.
- Previous supervisory experience is essential.
- A salary of £45k-47k (Depending on experience) is complemented with benefits including 5% pension, healthcare, 25 days holidays (plus BHs), onsite parking and hybrid working (4 days office: 1 day home).
- Applicants must also have full and indefinite eligibility to work in the UK (through being a UK citizen or having gained ILR) and should live within a sensible commute of Haydock.
