As we continue to invest in automation, operational excellence and new product development, we are seeking a Plant Engineering Manager to play a key role in driving plant reliability, continuous improvement and safe, efficient operations.
The Role
Reporting to the Manufacturing Operations Director, the Engineering Manager will lead a small team of multi-skilled maintenance engineers to ensure all production plant, machinery and site facilities operate reliably, safely and in line with all regulatory requirements. A core objective of this role is to deliver >95% machinery availability and support the efficient running of our automated processing plant. You will also take full responsibility for contractor control and the planning and execution of all maintenance activities across the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop and coordinate a multi-skilled engineering team driving a pro-active, can-do culture.
- Oversee installation, commissioning and optimisation of new equipment.
- Ensure safe operation, maintenance and statutory inspection/testing of existing plant.
- Rapidly respond to breakdowns, identify root causes, and implement effective preventative measures.
- Manage the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) system and asset care strategy.
- Control the ordering, availability and cost efficiency of critical spares.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records for all plant examinations and inspections (internal and third-party).
- Manage contractor activities on site, including inductions, permits and compliance documentation.
- Lead engineering elements of capital projects from concept and design through to commissioning and handover.
- Communicate effectively with production, operations and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure departmental budget control and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all internal processes, procedures and systems are followed at all times by all members of your team.
- Support the delivery of day-to-day engineering activities including hands-on support within the team.
About You – Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering desirable.
- Strong background in a manufacturing or process-industry environment.
- Strong practical experience of plant maintenance.
- Proven experience in managing engineering teams and maintenance functions.
- Solid understanding of automated production equipment including SCADA control systems.
- Project management capability including budget control and lifecycle delivery.
- Analytical and solution-focused, with strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to coach and develop others.
- Highly organised, able to prioritise effectively in a fast-moving environment.
