About the Role
Derby City Council is looking for a Deputy Data Protection Officer to play a leading role in ensuring the Council meets its legal obligations under the Data Protection Act (2018) and UK General Data Protection Regulations. Managing a team of Information Governance colleagues, this critical role is responsible for delivering a range of projects whilst supporting senior leaders and the wider organisation with expert advice that keeps us compliant.

The Opportunity
- Informing and advising the organisation about their obligations to comply with the GDPR and other data protection laws
- Developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure the Council complies with legal and statutory obligations
- Advising on data protection impact assessments
- Training colleagues and direct reports, including DPIA, FOI and EIR
- Overseeing an effective, compliant and responsive Information Governance Team responsible for management of the Freedom of Information Act, the Environmental Information Regulations and any other relevant legislation now or in the future
- Correlating and preparing key performance information to support self-assessment of compliance for the Council
About You
- Excellent knowledge and practical understanding of legislation, regulation, policies, procedures and standards for information management including the General Data Protection Regulations 2016
- Certified Data Protection Practitioner or LLB Law Degree (or equivalent relevant qualification)
- Experience of managing complex subject access requests, advising on complex FoI requests, investigating disclosure complaints and advising on and developing information sharing agreements
- Experience of developing standards, policies and procedures in information governance and of monitoring compliance
- Great people leadership skills
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs Grade C or above, or equivalent, including Maths and English
