Gesher School is a unique, all-through specialist school providing a meaningful and functional learning environment for young people with special educational needs, specifically focusing on language, communication, and social-pragmatic difficulties, with a specialism in Autism Spectrum Challenges (ASC). Young people are at the heart of everything we do. We foster a sense of belonging and community in a happy, safe, friendly, and stimulating environment where our students are supported to learn, interact, and have fun. The Gesher approach is warm, friendly, and nurturing. Emotional health, resilience, independence, and tailored, young person centred learning are at the very core of our vision.

To deliver these life changing outcomes, we are looking for a confident, enthusiastic, and highly motivated teacher to join our expanding team, specifically leading our Life Skills Pathway across KS3 and KS4. This post suits a passionate, dynamic, and adaptable individual who thrives on creating meaningful, personalised learning that meets individual needs and interests. You will establish and maintain high quality teaching and assessment across key stages and ability ranges, focusing on preparing our young people for a confident, independent future.

Key Responsibilities

  • High Quality Functional Learning: Deliver highly adapted, engaging lessons that focus on real world functional literacy and numeracy skills (e.g., telling the time, functional communication, and workplace skills).
  • Project-Based & Future-Ready Design: Design purposeful, engaging projects that enable our students to be skilled for the future workplace, confident in their sense of self, and builders of meaningful relationships.
  • Community Access & Independence: Plan and lead community trips to help students generalise their learning in real world settings, fostering confidence on public transport, shopping, and community safety.
  • Sensory & Regulation Support: Create a low arousal, stimulating yet safe classroom environment. Implement tailored sensory and co-regulation strategies to support emotional health and resilience.
  • Transdisciplinary Collaboration: Work seamlessly within our transdisciplinary team including teachers, therapists (Speech & Language, OT), teaching assistants, parents, and carers to ensure a holistic, therapeutic model of practice for every young person.

This position offers fantastic opportunities to develop your skills as a practitioner within an innovative, supportive, and highly collaborative team environment. We offer:

  • A warm, nurturing school culture that prioritises emotional health and wellbeing for both staff and students.
  • Excellent staff-to-student ratios with dedicated, collaborative Teaching Assistants.
  • Continuous professional development (CPD) tailored to specialist SEND practice and transdisciplinary working.

Gesher School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
