An established and fast-growing structural steel contractor delivering turnkey engineering projects across the UK is seeking an experienced Project / Design Engineer to join its team. The business provides a fully integrated service covering design, detailing, fabrication, and installation. Steelwork is supplied to a wide range of sectors including airports, recycling facilities, power stations, hospitals, and major petrochemical plants.
This is a key role within the organisation, working closely with the drawing office and engineering teams to manage the flow of technical information between clients, subcontractors, and internal departments. A strong understanding of structural steelwork, including both 3D models and detailed drawings, is essential. A minimum of 5 years’ experience within structural steel construction and fabrication is required.
Key Responsibilities- Manage projects from award through to final handover
- Coordinate design, production, and installation activities
- Interpret project scope, specifications, and technical requirements
- Act as the primary technical contact for clients and site teams
- Liaise with client representatives, engineers, draughtspeople, and subcontractors
- Collaborate with internal teams including buying, workshop, site management, and commercial departments
- Manage site teams and subcontractors where required
- Monitor programme delivery and ensure materials and fixings are prepared in line with schedule
- Identify and resolve day-to-day project issues
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety regulations
- Coordinate documentation including RAMS and Early Warning Notices
- Excellent ability to read and interpret structural drawings, connection details, and specifications
- Strong knowledge of structural steelwork and construction processes
- Proven experience managing construction project budgets
- Leadership experience with demonstrable team management skills
- Ability to produce and manage project programmes
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Confident communicator with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Positive, solutions-focused approach
- Proficient in MS Office and MS Project
- Extensive knowledge of construction materials and equipment
- SMSTS qualification preferred
