An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced distribution, warehouse, or logistics professional to join a high-volume operation as Deputy Distribution Centre Manager. This role offers the chance to play a key part in the leadership of a busy site that supports a national network of retail stores and garden centres.
Working closely with the Distribution Centre Manager, you will help oversee day-to-day warehouse operations, lead and develop teams, maintain service standards, and ensure products are delivered efficiently and accurately across the network. This is a hands-on leadership role within a well-established business that offers long-term stability and genuine career progression.
The successful candidate will bring strong operational experience, excellent people management skills, a proactive approach to coaching and mentoring a team, performance, compliance, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced distribution environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Support the Distribution Centre Manager with the day-to-day running of warehouse and distribution operations across goods in, storage, picking, packing, and dispatch
- Lead, motivate, and coach the teams to improve standards, deliver strong performance, accuracy, and service levels
- Monitor stock accuracy, space utilisation, and workflow efficiency to maintain a well-organised and productive operation
- Coordinate inbound and outbound activity to ensure timely replenishment and deliveries to retail stores and garden centres nationwide
- Maintain high standards of health and safety, compliance, housekeeping, and operational discipline across the site
- Track and improve KPIs relating to productivity, accuracy, service, and team performance
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and help drive best practice across the distribution centre
- Step into leadership responsibility in the absence of the Distribution Centre Manager
- Previous experience in a warehouse, logistics, or distribution leadership role, ideally within retail, FMCG, or a multi-site supply chain environment
- Strong people management skills with the ability to coach, support, and motivate teams in a fast-paced operation
- Good working knowledge of warehouse systems, stock control, KPI management, and distribution centre best practice
- Organised, resilient, and proactive, with strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on leadership style
- A solid understanding of health and safety, compliance, and operational procedures within a warehouse or distribution setting
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across teams and departments
- Salary inline with experience
- 28 days annual holiday, which increases to 32 days inline with service
