We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Advisor to join our Pembroke Resource’s Olive Downs Complex project in the Bowen Basin. This autonomous project, located 40 kilometres southwest of Moranbah, began operations in early 2023. Thiess has secured a five-year contract to deliver comprehensive mining services, including mine planning, overburden removal, drill and blast, load and haul (autonomous & manned), water management, rehabilitation, and infrastructure construction.
Working a 5/2/4/3 roster and reporting to the Technical Services Manager, your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable environmental laws and project approvals
- Oversee topsoil management, site water handling, and rehabilitation efforts, including quality assurance
- Implement the Environmental Management System effectively, developing and executing project-specific Environmental Management Plans
- Provide environmental training and awareness initiatives
- Communicate and promote environmental initiatives and innovations to enhance the organisational culture and liaise between client and regulatory bodies
- Compile reports to fulfil legislative and client obligations
- Coordinate environmental monitoring, inspections, and auditing programs, maintaining related documentation and records
- Analyse environmental data and provide regular updates on progress toward environmental performance targets
- Strategically influence design, construction, and consulting teams on environmental management and sustainability to achieve exceptional results
About You
A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering, Management, or a related field is essential. Proven experience in a site-based environmental management role in heavy industry, preferably mining. Ability to build strong relationships with site operational teams and offsite technical experts. Experience working in contract mining or similar is desirable but not mandatory. Strong communication skills are essential for effectively engaging with internal and external stakeholders, with proficiency in Microsoft applications. A current driver’s license is required.
