Job Description
You will work closely with business teams especially business development, commercial and senior management and externally with counterparty legal advisers, external legal advisers, contract counterparties and customers.You will be required to provide timely, high quality, practical and commercially focused legal advice, balancing legal risk with the commercial needs of the business and will be responsible for:
- Providing commercially focused legal advice on a broad range of projects ensuring compliance with applicable law.
- Reviewing, negotiating and/or drafting agreements and conducting contract negotiations with project counterparties primarily for construction, refurbishment and related services.
- Supporting on commercial and contractual matters for tenders, projects, variations and on-going contractual and operational matters.
- Assisting on the governance of transactions at local and group level.
- Working closely with colleagues throughout the group and with customers.
- Managing external legal resource as required.
- Assisting in developing and delivering training on legal matters for colleagues across the business.
The Successful Applicant
A successful Senior Counsel should have demonstrable experience and proven Understanding of the contractual framework surrounding construction projects within the UK construction market including experience of negotiating and agreements based on industry standard forms in particular the JCT suite of contracts and NEC.Desirable:
- Experience of public procurement preferred.
- Experience of construction and refurbishment projects in the housing sector.
