About Our Client
A major Energy and Natural Resources facility in the Runcorn area, this site plays a central role in converting non‑recyclable waste into usable power. Instead of sending residual waste to landfill, it uses high‑temperature combustion to generate electricity and steam, supporting both the national grid and local industry. Its scale makes it one of the largest operations of its kind in the UK, capable of processing hundreds of thousands of tonnes of material each year. The plant is designed with efficiency and environmental performance in mind. Advanced flue‑gas cleaning systems reduce emissions, and continuous monitoring ensures compliance with strict regulatory standards. By diverting waste from landfill, it helps cut methane emissions and contributes to a more circular approach to resource management. The energy produced offsets reliance on fossil fuels, adding another layer of environmental benefit. Beyond its technical functions, the facility is an important part of the local economy. It provides skilled jobs, supports supply chains, and collaborates with nearby businesses that use the steam it generates. Educational visits and community engagement initiatives help demystify the energy‑from‑waste process and highlight the role such infrastructure plays in modern waste management. Its presence reflects a broader shift in how the UK handles waste - moving away from disposal and toward recovery. While recycling remains the priority, facilities like this one deal with the unavoidable remainder, ensuring that even waste with no further material value can still contribute something useful. The result is a combination of waste reduction, energy production, and environmental responsibility that supports both local needs and national sustainability goals.
