My client is one of the largest savings organisations in the UK that offer products like Direct Savers, Income Bonds and other Premium Bonds.
Develop and deliver the organisation's IT and Enterprise Architecture strategy. Set and maintain the target architecture across all areas - business, data, technology, security and applications. Create clear architecture and design principles to guide decision making. Build and maintain an organisation wide architectural roadmap. Communicate architecture plans, risks and benefits to senior stakeholders in an understandable way. Work closely with outsourced partners to ensure their designs meet standards and deliver value. Coordinate architecture and design work across internal teams and external suppliers. Embed strong governance, compliance and design standards across all architecture activities. Provide architectural leadership for major transformation and change programmes. Drive adoption of new technologies and modern ways of working. Ensure major projects align with IT strategy and established architectural policies. Assess the current technology landscape, identify gaps and recommend improvements. Define quality criteria for architecture deliverables and ensure proposed solutions are cost effective. Maintain architectural documentation and ensure processes and artefacts are consistently applied. Track industry and government technology trends and assess their relevance. Highlight emerging technologies and advise on potential opportunities or efficiencies. Lead and grow the Enterprise Architecture team and broader EA community. Provide coaching, support and direction to Enterprise Architects. Promote the value of Enterprise Architecture across the organisation. Identify resource needs and help build a culture that fully embeds EA as a strategic function.
A successful Principal Enterprise Architect should have:
- Proven experience as an Enterprise Architect in large and complex organisations. Banking or Government experience is preferred.
- Comfortable working in regulated environments with strict compliance requirements.
- Strong background managing architecture within outsourced or multi supplier models.
- Deep knowledge of data centres, cloud platforms, AI and digital transformation, especially in financial services.
- Able to manage change delivered through multiple external partners and vendors.
- Broad experience across digital channels and modern digital technologies.
- Effective leader with a history of managing internal teams and external architectural resources.
- Experience running an Enterprise Architecture function during major transformation programmes.
- Degree in a technology related field or equivalent practical experience.
- Architecture certifications (e.g., TOGAF) are beneficial but not essential.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong written and verbal ability to explain complex ideas clearly.
- Confident leading, coaching and developing technical teams.
- Thorough understanding of how all parts of Enterprise Architecture fit together.
- Solid knowledge of software, hardware and architecture frameworks.
- Skilled in modern and emerging technologies, including cloud, open source, agile and digital services.
- Strong grasp of system performance, scalability, resilience and architectural design patterns.
