We are looking for a dedicated Progression Coach/Tutorial Mentor to deliver tutorial sessions and activities to construction study programme students. This role involves implementing policies and procedures to support student attendance, retention, achievement, and progression.

Key deliverables:

  • Deliver tutorial sessions on employability, mental health, social and emotional wellbeing, careers, and British Values.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Studies, Programme Leaders, curriculum teams, and pastoral support mentors to address concerns regarding achievement, retention, and behaviour.
  • Build and maintain supportive relationships to assist in the personal and social development of students.
  • Work closely with internal services such as careers guidance, SEND, exams, and support services.
  • Attend events such as parents’ evenings, induction events, and review meetings.
  • Guide learners in understanding and navigating their career pathways within the construction industry.
  • Stay up to date with developments in construction education, qualification frameworks, and industry expectations.

With a forward-thinking approach, you will continuously seek ways to enhance our processes, identifying opportunities to improve the student experience throughout their journey at the college. Your ability to understand the needs of internal clients, external partners, and adapt to a changing regulatory environment will be crucial in directing resources and focusing the team's efforts effectively.

About You:

You should have a strong understanding of the challenges faced by young people aged 16-19 and be knowledgeable about the services available to support them. Your experience in a Further Education setting and your ability to help students achieve their goals will be crucial in this role. You should possess excellent written skills, including spelling, grammar, and the ability to write concisely and accurately. Your ability to work with a diverse group of learners and develop successful strategies to meet their needs is essential. You will be a role model for our students, demonstrating the values of ambition, resilience, collaboration, inclusivity, and respect. In addition, you should have the ability to challenge learners appropriately, set targets, monitor progress, and develop strategies to support their retention, attendance, and achievement. Your well-developed communication skills and ability to empathise and provide support to young people will be key to your success in this role.
