The Trafford and Stockport College Group (TSCG) has an opportunity for an experienced Construction Multi Skills Lecturer to join the Construction Built Environment and Sustainability team to help us achieve our vision of unlocking potential and fostering success.
About The Role
Primarily you will be working with a range of students at Level 1 on full-time study programmes, and potentially with Level 2 Apprentices that are working towards the Apprenticeship Standard in Property Maintenance. You may also be required to support the curriculum area where necessary in the delivery of specific trades.
You will be expected to provide young learners with an effective foundation to start their careers in a construction setting, with the intent to guide learners into their specific chosen progression pathway.
Units of Delivery may vary in accordance with the skill set of the tutor but will include (but not limited to) topics such as:
- Introduction Health and Safety in Construction
- Introduction to the Construction Industry
- Introductory Carpentry and Joinery techniques
- Introductory Painting and Decorating techniques
- Introductory Plastering techniques
- Introductory Tiling techniques
- Introduction to Basic Plumbing techniques
This role will require you to deliver high quality, learner-focused education providing a quality learning experience for our students. You will be required to develop the curriculum and implement teaching and learning strategies that enable our students to succeed and thrive in their chosen subject area.
About You
You will be an experienced all-round tradesperson with experience of working within the construction industry, have experience in a wide range of occupational activities, and be qualified to an appropriate level (ideally Level 3 NVQ, but Level 2 NVQ will be considered) in your primary craft. Ideally, you will have a strong verifiable history of property maintenance and/or development that can demonstrate the range of your abilities. You will have experience of working with young people in an educational setting, and ideally you will be qualified to Level 4 in Teaching and Learning (Cert Ed), although NQT (Non-Qualified Teacher) status will be considered.
Ideally you will be conversant with current legislation relating to the safeguarding of Children and Young People in an Educational setting and have experience working with potentially challenging learners or learners with specific needs. To consolidate this, you will be experienced in the use of Learner Management Systems and processes and be willing to undertake continued professional development to maintain high standards of support and guidance.
You will need to be relatively conversant and comfortable in the use of computer systems with particular focus on Microsoft software systems and applications.
You will be a strong team player who can communicate well with others, demonstrate respect for and be supportive towards your peers, and be comfortable in a very exciting and busy working environment. You will have a strong, resilient character with a “can-do” approach to challenges.
