The Role:

  • To coordinate and manage a designated number of programmes as agreed with the Director of Curriculum.
  • To undertake an agreed teaching commitment across a range of programmes.
  • Effectively manage financial and physical resources across the areas of responsibility.

  • Outcomes for learners across programmes, responsible for including but not limited to attendance, retention, progress, achievement, destinations and student feedback.
  • Coordination and quality of teaching activity across the programme area of responsibility.
  • Recruitment of learner numbers across the programme area of responsibility.
  • Line managing staff responsible for delivery and support (e.g. technicians) of programmes.
  • Maximise the performance of the team by communicating and clarifying expectations, setting objectives, identifying performance indicators and providing feedback.
  • Liaise with the Director of Curriculum as part of the business planning and review processes to establish appropriate targets for recruitment and outcomes for learners for all relevant programmes.
  • Responsible for people management of identified team members, including recruitment, induction for new staff and addressing conduct issues.
  • Manage the local environment (classrooms and corridors) to ensure satisfactory physical appearance, health and safety risk assessments, up‑to‑date notice boards and prompt reporting of equipment defaults to estates.
  • Support the Director of Curriculum with the annual self‑assessment for the team and lead on course review and development.
  • Act as a mentor to new contracted full and part‑time teachers and other third‑party educators.
  • Collaborate with College support services to coordinate student support activities, including induction, tutorials, progress reviews, careers guidance and additional learning support.
  • Carry out internal verification/moderation duties, act as contact for the team with awarding bodies, and facilitate external verifiers visits.
  • Maintain awareness of developments and trends within teaching practice, commit to professional/vocational development, and participate in training.
  • Plan, prepare and teach a range of courses, mark and assess student work including examinations.
  • Ensure mechanisms for monitoring and maximising student progress are in place.
  • Contribute to day‑to‑day organisation, department administration, and maintain up‑to‑date syllabus, schemes of work and programme team files.
  • Complete registration of attendance documents and provide other relevant data for reconciliation of student records.
  • Provide personal tutoring to designated student groups and assess development through action plans and student profiles.
  • Coordinate and supervise activity around student visits and work placement programmes.
  • Assist with enquiries, student admissions, educational advice, guidance, counselling and marketing activities.
  • Advise the Director of Curriculum on expenditure requirements, budget planning and resource utilisation to ensure cost effectiveness.
  • Assist with timetables and rooming, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Assist recruitment, selection, induction and short‑term cover problems for staff.
  • Undertake appraisal and performance management activities of staff.
