Reporting directly into the Chief Financial Officer, this is a compelling opportunity for a high performing finance leader to join a growing construction and field services platform at a pivotal stage of expansion. The Financial Controller will serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership and will be responsible for building, strengthening, and leading the company's accounting and project finance environment. The role offers broad visibility, meaningful influence on financial performance, and the chance to help modernize systems and processes for a rapidly scaling business.
Main duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Project and Construction Accounting Leadership
- Oversee all construction accounting activities including WIP reporting, project cost tracking, and revenue recognition.
- Manage billing workflows including milestone invoicing, time and materials, progress billing, and closeout processes.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of project budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
- Partner closely with operations and project managers to drive financial discipline across active jobs.
- Corporate Accounting and Reporting
- Lead the month end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, and preparation of financial statements.
- Maintain accounting policies and strengthen internal controls across all entities.
- Oversee cash management, AP, AR, and payroll while identifying opportunities for process improvement.
- Support the annual budget, forecasting cycles, and company-wide financial planning needs.
- Systems, Processes, and Leadership
- Improve and streamline accounting systems to support a growing project based business.
- Evaluate current reporting tools and drive enhancements to financial visibility.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high performing accounting team.
- Prepare reporting packages for senior leadership, lenders, and the board.
This role allows for 1 day REMOTE. 4 days/ week onsite in Marlborough, MA (non-negotiable).
The Successful Applicant:
- Bachelor's degree; CPA or equivalent certification is preferred.
- Proficiency in financial reporting and analysis tools, including advanced Excel skills.
- Strong construction accounting experience (WIP reports, milestone payments, project accounting etc.).
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to manage and mentor a team effectively.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in the property industry is highly desirable.
