Job Description

The General Counsel will provide varied legal counsel to the senior leadership team and business:

  • Oversee all legal and regulatory compliance matters across the organization.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Provide strategic legal advice to senior leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Manage and resolve disputes, including litigation and arbitration proceedings.
  • Ensure compliance with industry-specific regulations and standards.
  • Collaborate with external legal counsel and manage relationships as needed.
  • Develop and implement policies to minimize legal risks and ensure operational integrity.
  • Provide training and updates on legal and compliance matters to internal teams.

The Successful Applicant

The successful General Counsel should have:

  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership.
  • Extensive knowledge of legal principles, procedures, and regulations within a global organization.
  • Preference for shipping/maritime, industrial or manufacturing industry (not essential).
  • Exceptional negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Proven ability to build and manage legal functions.
  • Confident approach to advising the business on complex legal issues and providing strategic guidance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Experience managing relationships with external legal counsel.
