Job Description

The In-House Intellectual Property (IP) Legal Counsel will be responsible for:

  • Develop and implement intellectual property, patent, trademark and copyright strategies to protect new and existing company assets.
  • Manage patent portfolios, including drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Collaborate with research/development teams of inventors to identify and safeguard new innovations.
  • Patent protection and prosecution, handle IP disputes, including litigation support and resolution strategies, managing outside counsel as required.
  • Negotiate and draft IP-related agreements, such as licensing and joint development agreements.
  • Work directly with senior stakeholders to provide guidance on intellectual property matters.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations related to intellectual property in the industrial and manufacturing sector.

The Successful Applicant

The successful In-House Intellectual Property (IP) Legal Counsel should have:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering/electrical engineering.
  • Juris Doctor law degree.
  • Admission in good standing to the Massachusetts bar.
  • Registered Patent Attorney in good standing at the USPTO.
  • 5+ years relevant IP experience.
  • Strong knowledge of intellectual property law, particularly in patent prosecution, patents, copyright and trademarks matters.
  • Experience working within the engineering/electrical/industrial and manufacturing sector.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable working directly with senior leadership teams providing legal counsel in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
