600 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa still live without reliable electricity. One company is already fixing that, at scale. Now they need someone to build what's next.
Page 1 Recruitment is exclusively partnering with this business on one of the most ambitious hires they'll make this decade. This isn't a job. It's a mandate.
About the role
A blank page, backed by real infrastructure: manufacturing in China, finance and tech teams in Sheffield, a distribution network already reaching hundreds of thousands of homes across Africa. You decide what gets built, whether it's working, and if it isn't, you have the authority to kill it and start again. Full ownership from first customer conversation to live pilot to funded path to scale. This company has already proven its model works. Your job is to find the next one.
Who gets this role
- Not necessarily the most experienced person in the room, the right one
- Energised by ambiguity, not paralysed by it
- Can build a business case from a market with no paved road and incomplete data
- Has either built something from nothing before, or has been waiting for the chance to
Key Responsibilities
- Discover and validate a new business opportunity, working directly with customers and agents in-market
- Define the commercial strategy, unit economics, and business case for a brand-new revenue line
- Stand up operations and build a local team, scaling both as the business grows
- Partner with Sheffield finance/tech teams and China-based manufacturing partners
- Report directly to the C-suite with genuine decision-making authority
- Own the journey from discovery through pilot, launch and scale
What it takes
- Analytical, structured, rigorous, even with incomplete data
- Obsessive attention to detail, bias toward ownership over delegation
- Comfortable with ambiguity, uncertain infrastructure, slow logistics
- Willing to spend extended periods on the ground in Africa, open to relocating
- A real interest in frontier markets, energy access, e-mobility, or building things that matter
Bonus Points
- French language skills (DRC and other francophone markets)
- Prior zero-to-one experience with a venture, product, or business line
- Background in emerging markets, energy, mobility, distribution, or asset finance
Why This, Why Now
- £70K-£80K base, rising for an exceptional candidate, plus equity
- Senior GM standing from day one
- Flexible base: Sheffield, London, or in-market Africa
- Own a brand-new business line inside a company that's already proven it works
- The kind of impact you can point to for the rest of your career
- This role won't stay open long, and it won't be offered twice.
