About the opportunity
Our Defence and Security provides design and engineering services for our nuclear and defence clients across the UK and abroad.
We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to design large industrial facilities, such as power station buildings, manufacturing sites, and dockyards.
The role offers hybrid working with 1–2 days in the Glasgow or Reading office, with occasional site visits.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, design, and monitor the ongoing process of a project, coordinating with the project delivery team.
- Work with a team of EC&I engineers and designers to develop engineering deliverables throughout various stages of the project.
- Prepare drawings, functional and technical specifications, and contract documents.
- Perform calculations and evaluations for the design of equipment and systems for industrial applications.
- Interface and coordinate with Safety Case and System Engineering teams.
- Participate in planning, cost development, and management, and scheduling for assigned projects.
- Maintain effective communication with clients, project team members, and the project delivery team.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of electrical engineering discipline.
- Experience in design of HV/LV distribution systems and associated control and protection systems.
- Experience in LV cable sizing and design, and use of cable sizing software (AMTECH).
- Experience in electrical building services design.
- Experience in a contracting environment with relevant site experience.
- Willingness to travel when required.
- Professionally qualified (e. g., Incorporated or Chartered) engineer; a degree in the relevant discipline is preferred but not required.
- Experience with nuclear safety‑implicated systems.
- Experience using Auto CAD / Revit software.
- Demonstrated record of maintaining up‑to‑date skills and knowledge at the forefront of the field.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with HV distribution and design and use of cable sizing software (ETAP).
- Experience in fire alarm and security systems design.
- Background in project design/engineering work in a specialist area (Nuclear and Defence sector).
