We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Field Engineer to support the delivery of a major steam generation facility project in Barrow. This site‑based engineering role acts as the key interface between the construction installation teams and the engineering/design office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary mechanical engineering interface between the design engineering team and site construction teams.
  • Ensure installation activities are completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, procedures, and design intent.
  • Review and interpret mechanical isometrics, general arrangement drawings, P&IDs, fabrication drawings, engineering 3‑D models, and structural steel erection drawings.
  • Provide field engineering support for mechanical pipework installation, structural steel erection, fabrication and fit‑up activities, painting and coating systems, and thermal insulation scope.
  • Resolve site technical queries and coordinate design clarifications with engineering disciplines.
  • Support constructability reviews and identify potential installation clashes or design issues.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards and codes (ASME piping codes, ISO standards, project specifications, quality and welding requirements).
  • Monitor subcontractor installation activities to ensure workmanship and compliance with engineering documentation.
  • Participate in walk‑downs, inspections, punch‑listing, and turnover activities.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC teams regarding inspections, test packs, and mechanical completion requirements.
  • Support management of field changes and red‑line markups for as‑built documentation.
  • Interface with planning and construction management teams to support installation sequencing and progress reporting.
  • Promote safe systems of work and adherence to project HSE requirements.

Qualifications

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Field Engineer, Project Engineer, or Construction Engineer within heavy industrial, energy, nuclear, or process plant environments.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical piping systems, steam generation or process plant installations, structural steel erection, fabrication and welding processes.
  • Working knowledge of ASME piping codes, ISO standards, and mechanical installation standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, structural and fabrication drawings, engineering models.
  • Experience supporting full installation lifecycle including fabrication, installation, painting/coatings, insulation, and mechanical completion.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills with ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Familiarity with quality documentation, ITPs, NCRs, and field change processes.
  • Site construction experience in highly regulated environments preferred.
  • Desirable: Experience on steam generation, power, nuclear, or major industrial infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts and project delivery environments.
  • CSCS or equivalent site certification; SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safely qualification beneficial.
  • Experience using engineering model review platforms such as Navisworks or similar.
