About the Opportunity
Hinkley Point C (HPC) is the first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years.
HPC’s two EPR reactors will generate 3.26GW of secure, low‑carbon electricity for 60years, enough to power around 6million homes.
The project creates thousands of jobs and brings lasting benefits to the UK economy.
Role Overview
The Commercial Manager will work collaboratively with the other Commercial Managers within the small team to provide commercial support to successfully manage the Responsible Designer (RD) contract on HPC.
The role is the first line of commercial contact for the HPC Project and Engineering community on RD matters, managing the commercial aspects for a defined scope area(s) of the RD contract and supporting the Commercial Assistant activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring all principal accountabilities for the contract commercial team are implemented in accordance with HPC commercial procedures.
- Adopting the role of ‘Intelligent Customer’, ensuring stakeholder expectations are met regarding commercial probity, value and that the supply chain is treated fairly and equitably.
- Leading engagement with the supply chain based on collaborative working principles and applying the skills of supporting, coaching, enabling and facilitating team members through change; building and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders.
- Managing a key scope of work in the commercial management of contracts during the execution phase, including the management of change via Compensation Events.
- Overseeing contract commercial relationships.
- Working with collaborative behaviours in a spirit of mutual trust and cooperation.
- Seeking to achieve equitable outcomes for all parties to facilitate early commercial close‑out of contentious topics.
- Considering the nuclear baseline and distribution of nuclear safety significant responsibilities within the team; ensuring people are aware of the needs of a strong nuclear safety culture.
- Professional development of self and people within the team.
- Managing contracts and acting as a direct interface with the supply chain to ensure an embedded nuclear safety culture; setting the right level of oversight, control and surveillance of contractor activities at HPC.
Education, Experience and Skills
- Strategic thinking, data/facts centric.
- Ability to engage and influence Senior Stakeholders in a complex environment.
- Effective commercial/contract management skills.
- Extensive track record of managing commercial teams and administering NEC3 PSC contracts.
- Ability to make sound decisions on matters of significant financial value.
- Good understanding of contract performance management, risk management and change management.
- High levels of IT literacy, including MS Excel and SAP.
