Residential & Commercial Construction Buyer

We are currently looking for a construction Buyer for a well-established residential and commercial contractor, based in Victoria London but working on sites in Kent. Working Monday to Friday for £45,000 – £55,000 depending on experience.

Reporting directly to the Pre-Contracts Manager and Senior Quantity Surveyor, the Buyer will have the opportunity of overseeing the procurement of all materials on secured projects. You must have great communication skills and be able to provide the site teams with the relevant information when asked.

Technical Skills

  • Proven experience within the construction or housing industry and experience of working in a fast-paced project environment within the building sector.
  • 2+ years of experience working within the construction contracting sector.
  • Good general education – minimum of A Levels, on-site installation experience or on-the-job experience within a buying/selling capacity (e.g., Wholesaler).
  • Be a competent user of Microsoft packages, specifically Excel and Outlook.

Job Overview

  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers to negotiate the best price and terms for goods and services.
  • Ensure procurement of materials is within budgets and given timescale in order to progress works on site.
  • Manage the supply chain to ensure timely delivery of products.
  • Identify potential new suppliers.
  • Resolve disputes and account queries between suppliers and the company.
  • Create, maintain, and update overall company documentation, specifically call-off schedules and procurement schedules.
  • Maintain order of the shared email inbox.
  • Process orders using correct product codes in Sage and send to relevant vendors.
  • Obtain quotes for day-to-day and bespoke items or client-specific products.
  • Check order value approval required and obtain where necessary.
  • Purchase from preferred suppliers, being mindful of supplier rebates.
  • Distribute orders to relevant vendors.
  • Track orders and delivery confirmation.
  • Resolve invoice problems.
  • Support Commercial & Estimating teams with general material costs and supplier details as requested.
