Your insight will help ensure the organisation operates with integrity, fairness and transparency.
You Will:

Why this is a great Independent Non-Executive Director role:
Paddle UK’s Board brings together a wide range of professional experience while also benefiting from a fresh and evolving Board dynamic. Many Directors are early in their first term, creating a culture that is open, collaborative and not set in established ways of working. The Board is deliberately seeking to strengthen its legal capability, meaning your expertise will be actively valued and influential from the outset. All Board members are encouraged and supported to contribute fully, ask questions, and help shape how the Board operates as it continues to develop. This creates an excellent environment for a legally qualified professional stepping into their first Independent Non-Executive role.
About You:
- Hold a recognised legal qualification (eg, solicitor, barrister, or equivalent)
- Have experience or interest in areas such as governance, regulation, employment, commercial, sports or public/administrative law
- Bring sound judgement, curiosity, and the confidence to contribute your perspective
- Be collaborative, thoughtful, and committed to high standards of governance
Previous Board experience is not essential. Current legal expertise is desirable. We are also committed to maintaining a diverse Board, taking into account a range of socio-demographic characteristics.
Time Commitment & Practicalities:
- Voluntary role, with reimbursement of reasonable out-of-pocket expenses
- Initial four-year term, with the possibility of one further four-year term
- Approximately five Board meetings per year, plus committee involvement
- Meetings are typically held at either the National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham or our High-Performance centre at Lee Valley, with virtual attendance available where possible
